As a boy, Marcus Rawls, President and Founder of Batten Island Trading was always tinkering with things...He would sometimes proudly present his friends with his latest batch of concoctions made from wild blackberries and other "special ingredients" he made in his bedroom that had his own bathroom/laboratory.

Through High School and college many unusual things to eat and drink would spring forth from his inventive mind. Culinary status quo was not for him!

Later Marc and his brothers went on to start one of the original Landscape companies in Jacksonville which included a nursery and maintenance divisions. Even in this venue, Marc would produce innovative designs as well as experiment with botanical hybrids. After years of hard work job related injuries, he realized that he needed to turn his attention to a less physically demanding endeavor. It was only natural that he would return to his first love...thinking up new ways to stimulate the palate!

Batten Island Gourmet sauce is one of his finest creations. It is an incredible fusion of many diverse cultural cooking styles and taste. The magic result of this is that it seems to enhance almost any food! Subtle yet distinctive, the diversity of it's content translates into it's diversity of uses.

So in the early '90's Marc started surprising his friends with bottles of his new creation. People would try it and soon afterward started asking Marc if he had any more. Demand quickly outpaced supply so Marc decided to go full time with production of the sauce and thus was born "Batten Island Gourmet sauce".

Through the 90's Marc and his brother Wade built up quite a following for this unique sauce. They were even starting to ship the sauce worldwide. But then disaster struck.
Marc fell gravely ill and almost left us several times. For almost 10 years while Marc battled for his life thousands were left wanting this unique sauce. But Marc has battled back helped by no small amount by another of his creations MIDBACTUM and now along with his brother Wade and his Godbrother and best friend Chris Smyth have formed Batten Island Trading, Inc.

We have once again started production of this famous sauce and we can proudly say Marc's original “Batten Island Gourmet Sauce” is now available to all to savor and enjoy!!!
